Ecstatic Dance at Silver Tree Studio

Silver Tree Studio, Peebles, Scottish Borders. Cost £10/£8(concession). Free for members of Sufi School. For any questions please email: contact@harmonyoftheway.co.uk

Dancing is one of the easiest and most enjoyable spiritual practices. In this context, 'spiritual practice' means a conscious experience. Celebration, love, joy and ecstasy can open up through the unity of body and consciousness. As appealing as these qualities are, for a lot of people the use of intoxicants is needed to allow these to be experienced without fear. A 'safe space' is needed to help us ease into opening up. In this context 'safe space' means we are aiming to have no judgements towards ourselves or others, 'to dance like there is nobody watching'. It is also a space of community, where everyone dancing is sharing a vision of supporting ourselves to open up without judgement.

Nothing is as liberating as dancing freely, without intoxicants, only the natural intoxicant of joy and freedom!

There is a wide variety of music played from pop songs to techno. The evening will consist of warming up stretches, the dance, meditation and sharing. No previous dance experience is necessary.

Lama Noah Samarkand is the Spiritual Director of the Nyingma-Rabbaniyya Sufi School. He has over 30 years experience of ecstatic dance. Attaining his degree in drama and performance in 2014 he worked as a theatre director and writer before turning full time to his Sufi School. He started his meditation training in 1994 and has engaged in and lead many meditation retreats in the last 2 decades.

The integration of creativity, movement, love and meditation is the ethos of the Sufi School.
